The CDC is very excited to have this program and see it
as a way to promote language and literacy growth not
only in the classroom but at home, as well.
They will explore use
of surveillance cameras and other processes to maintain the same level
of supervision and oversight with fewer personnel.
Eventually, by using this technology, Sheppard may be
able to further expand fitness center hours. More
information will follow once our research is complete on
these options.
Another manpower-saving measure to
be implemented in the near future is the elimination of
towel service at the fitness centers. Nearly 4,500
man-hours were dedicated last year to launder gym
towels, along with the cost of supplies.
With the loss of six over-hire positions
and the realignment of a majority of the military positions to other bases,
Sheppard simply won't have the manpower this year to continue that service.
Each Team Sheppard member should take a clean towel along with their other
PT clothes when using the fitness center. A fee structure for some of the
various fitness classes offered will also begin in the near future. Most services
facilities charge a fee for classes taught by contracted instructors.
In order to pay these contractors, we need to charge a nominal fee for aerobics
and other classes. It is very similar to paying for a massage or some other
specialized class.
The number of sports officials from the area's officials
association will be reduced to a single official for intramural events. Additional
officials for each sport will be trained, and volunteers can also serve as officials
for all intramural games.
Hours of operation could potentially change, reducing the
number of Airmen or civilian employees needed to operate the facilities. Being a fit Air
Force is top priority with leadership.
However, Sheppard must do it in a prudent, fiscal way without
decreasing the quality of service for Airmen. With a few changes, this goal can be achieved.
